Feb 3, 2014: Mummification Webquest

We covered a lot of material in today's class!  We started our new unit today which is.......ANCIENT EGYPT! This is one of my favorite units because their culture is so interesting and innovative, so we have a lot of fun activities coming up!

We started out by taking a "tour" of the world from Pulaski middle school, to the Nile River in Egypt.  I used tour builder to create this virtual trip which gives a really cool visual of where we are in the world as compared to the Egyptians.  It's fairly awesome, and something we will definitely use more in the future! Click here to take the tour.

Now normally we would start out the unit by continuing with information about the geography of this region but since we are doing a joint project with Mrs. Kohls in science we jumped right into mummification! In science students will be working on a mummification project to go along with their human body unit, so we wanted to make sure they had some background information before starting this.  In my class today, students started a mummification webquest.  Using the website linked on the doc, students must answer all of the questions listed to gain an understanding of the mummification process.  This is purely a jump in and get your feet wet project, and we will discuss all of the steps in further detail after to clarify any questions they may have!

We will continue working on this tomorrow.  Remember after you finish the webquest you can play the challenge game linked underneath.  You can also play this game from Discovery Kids Education, or this one from the Children's University of Manchester.

Happy mummifying!
