Latitude and Longitude: Sept 10, 2013

Homework: Latitude/Longitude WS

More latitude and longitude today!  We discussed the concept of latitude and longitude further and talked about how the equator, which is the 0 degree line for latitude, and the prime meridian, the zero degree line for longitude, cut the earth in halves called hemispheres.  So anything north of the equator is in the northern hemisphere, and anything south of the equator is in the southern hemisphere.  Similarly, anything west of the prime meridian is in the western hemisphere, and anything east of the prime meridian is in the eastern hemisphere.  So, for example, here in Wisconsin we live in the northwestern hemisphere!

After jotting down a few more notes, we began working on our homework.  The latitude/longitude worksheet had you finding and writing down the coordinates of certain points, as well as plotting coordinates given to you.  REMEMBER YOU ALWAYS LABEL AND PLOT LATITUDE FIRST!  So the first half of your coordinate should always have a north or south direction label on it.  Latitude is horizontal and longitude is vertical.

If you have any trouble with the worksheet or have any questions, shoot me an e-mail or see me during homeroom!
